For those of you who might not be familiar with Reiter Park, it is approximately a 7 acre park located just down the street from the Leisure Services building (840 Orange Avenue), about a 5 minute walk. Within the last several years, the park has undergone multiple changes. Originally, it contained a couple baseball fields, 2 tennis courts, 3 racquetball courts, a basketball court and some scattered playground equipment with a pavilion. It was the vision of residents and City officials to turn this park into something more interactive for people of all ages and to also create a venue for events and entertainment. There was an expressed desire for this park to eventually become a focal point for Longwood because of its proximity to the historic district and the new train station.

In order to turn Reiter Park into the new and innovative park that was desired, it was decided that the construction would be completed in 3 different phases due to budgetary concerns and the availability of grants. Just recently, the City completed phase two of the Reiter Park project with the assistance of a Land and Water Conservation Grant. The updates include a brand new pavilion and playground, a concrete walking path through the park, 2 resurfaced tennis courts, 1 resurfaced basketball court, brick lined beds for exercise equipment, a fishing dock and a re-graded hill area which will serve as audience seating for a future amphitheater. Longwood is also proud to have a clone of the original Senator Bald Cypress tree planted directly on the park grounds.

Longwood started construction of phase 3 in May of 2017. This work is nearing completion and will include the amphitheater, splash pad, completion of the walking trail, board walk, stream feature, bathrooms and more!
